The Devil is a mythological head demon who appears in several of Zappa's songs. Two of Zappa's favorite compositions, L'Histoire Du Soldat by Igor Stravinsky and Krzysztof Penderecki's The Devils of Loudun both feature the Devil.
- Rance Muhammitz tries to seduce Lonesome Cowboy Burt during Scene 30: JCB & Rance of 200 Motels.
- In Dental Hygiene Dilemma, a tiny devil tries to seduce Jeff Simmons to quit The Mothers Of Invention.
- Interviewed by Steve Peacock (Zappa's Latest Box Of Tricks, Sounds, 27 November 1971), Zappa described a plot for an upcoming movie project, Billy The Mountain, where a character of a "phased-out Byzantine devil" is named Old Zircon, who induces Ethell the Tree to trick Billy The Mountain into taking her on a vacation.
- Advance Romance: "Oh, you know they told me she might be a devil."
- The Devil appears as a character in Titties 'n Beer (played by Terry Bozzio), where he tries to seduce a biker (played by Zappa) to sell his soul in exchange for his girlfriend.
- Teen-age Wind: "You ain't the devil, you ain't the devil"
- The Devil is also referenced on the warning sticker of Them Or Us.
- Promiscuous: "It's the work of the Devil"
- The Downtown Talent Scout: "For smokin' devil grass"
- The Devil is featured as a character in Zappa's proposed play Dio Fa, played by Elvis Presley.
He is described as "the guy with the horns and the pointed stick" in Warning/Guarantee-Sticker.
