Philly Joe Jones (July 15, 1923 - August 30, 1985) was an American jazz drummer who played with Tadd Dameron, Miles Davis, Bill Evans, Mal Waldron, Archie Shepp, Sonny Rollins, Chet Baker, John Coltrane and Hank Mobley, among others. From 1958 on, he also had a solo career.

During the Actuel Festival in Amougies, Belgium (1969), Zappa jammed in a session with Archie Shepp and Philly Joe Jones on 27 October 1969.
Interviewed by Deborah Parisi in Zappa 89-7, Rhythm, July 1989, Frank Zappa said: "The first drummer that I really thought was fantastic was Louie Bellson. I thought he was hot stuff."
