Bobby Jameson (born Robert Parker Jameson April 20, 1945 – May 12, 2015) was an American singer-songwriter, best known for the cult record "Songs of Protest and Anti-Protest" (1965).
Biography
Jameson first recorded for Talamo in 1964. His first single "I'm So Lonely" was a regional hit and earned him a place on American Bandstand. He was noticed by Andrew Loog Oldham who invited him to London to record some early Rolling Stones songs "All I Want Is My Baby / Each And Every Day" (Decca F 12032(UK) London 9730 (US) 1964).
Jameson then recorded an album, "Songs Of Protest And Anti-Protest" for Marshall Lieb using the name Chris Lucey (Released in the UK as " Too Many Mornings" and credited to Bobby Jameson) as he was reworking an album recorded by Chris Ducey using his titles in 1965.
FZ arranged both sides of his 1966 single "Gotta Find My Roogalator"/Lowdown Funky Blues". Both songs were written by Jameson.
Jameson was featured in Mondo Hollywood where he is seen with his girlfriend Gail on a beach and at a party. They lived with Zappa on Kirkwood Drive but Jameson left and Gail stayed with Zappa.
In 1967 he recorded for Verve in 1967.
Jameson later went into a spiral of drug and alcohol abuse and never saw a dime of the songs he recorded. In 2007 he started a blog to advocate the rights to his own music. He died on May 12, 2015. Only four months later his former girlfriend Gail Zappa also passed away.
Availability
The "Watch Your Step: New Rubble, Volume 3" CD, released on Radioactive Records, includes Jameson's "Please Mr. Mailman" (described as a B-side to "Rum Pum"). On the compilation CD "The Rolling Stones Works - Various Artists", released by Deram in Japan, both Jameson tracks are included.
