Sergio Albonico
Sergio Albonico is an American photographer, keyboardist, music and film journalist and film director.
In 1984 Albonico worked as a photographer and film director. He worked on the lay-out of Hustler's Thing-Fish set to promote Zappa's album of the same name. Annie Ample posed as a model during that session. [1]
In 1987 Albonico worked making photos and interviews for Japanese magazines and was a friend/next door neighbour of Bob Rice, which is how he met Zappa. made photographs for Zappa's album Guitar (1988) and the accompanying official tour programme that year. [2]
Albonico also worked as a photographer for Miles Davis. In fact he was photographed with Davis on the set of Miami Vice. Albonico was active as a keyboardist too, collaborating with Mark Mothersbaugh of Devo. He is a personal friend of Terry Bozzio and Gary Panter. [3]
In 2019 Andrew Greenaway, Mick Zeuner and Klaus Kühner published The Zappa Tour Atlas (Wymer UK, 2019), a comprehensive list of all of Zappa's tours. [4], which has a foreword by Robert Martin. A limited (500) edition hardback coffee table photo book of Zappa’s last tour entitled FZ 88. A Visual Documentary. Zappa's Final Tour. [5] was also released through Wymer UK a couple of months prior. It is based around the photos of Sergio Albonico, and features a narrative written by Greenaway.
