Dr. Dot
Dr. Dot (real name: Dorothy Stein, Manchester, Connecticut, October 19, 1967) is an American massage therapist and sex columnist, best-known for giving several famous rock and pop stars massages, including the Grateful Dead, Def Leppard, The Rolling Stones, David Bowie, Alice Cooper, Steven Tyler (Aerosmith), Paul McCartney, Steve Vai, Eminem, Robert Plant (Led Zeppelin), Sting, Kiss, The Who, Jeff Beck, Lemmy (Motorhead) and Kanye West. She originally gave free massages to pop stars just to get free tickets, but after Rolling Stones drummer Charlie Watts insisted, she started charging money for her services.
Dr. Dot has always been very insistent that she isn't a groupie, because she never gave sexual favors to her clients. Several of the pop stars she (and her employees) massaged have also been female: Debbie Harry (Blondie), Mariah Carey, Courtney Love, Katy Perry, Lady Gaga,... The only rock star she ever actually dated was Joey Ramone (The Ramones) and she once had an affair with Bruce Willis.
She also wrote a sex advice column, Ask Dr. Dot, published in Penthouse, the New York Press and Exberliner.
In 1999, Dr. Dot published a biography, Butt-Naked And Backstage: Diary Of The Worlds Greatest Rock And Roll Masseuse.
Frank Zappa
Dr. Dot became a Zappa fan through her father, who often went to his concerts, taking her with him. In school, she wore a Titties 'n Beer shirt. [1]
In 1988, Dr. Dot met Frank Zappa. During a soundcheck of the band in Portland, Maine, she started burping and Zappa recorded these belches to be used during A Few Moments With Brother A. West on The Best Band You Never Heard In Your Life. [2] She also danced on stage in a yellow apron during Packard Goose as part of the Long Island Ensemble. [3] Apart from Ike Willis and Scott Thunes, Dr. Dot also gave Zappa massages, but he refused to take his shirt off and preferred just his hands to be massaged. He also gave her her professional nickname Dr. Dot.
In 2008, Dr. Dot performed during the Zappanale Festival in Bad Doberan, Germany. She also appears on the Zappanale 18, Zappanale 18 and Zappanale 20 album (2007, 2008, 2009), as part of the Project/Object project. [4]
In 2021 [5] and 2023, she interviewed Zappa's sister, Patrice Zappa. [6]. In 2021, [7] and 2023, she also interviewed Ike Willis (who was a good friend of her) [8]. In 2023, interviewed Scott Thunes [9].
In 2022, Dr. Dot interviewed Don Preston [10] and Napoleon Murphy Brock [11], followed in 2025 by Bobby Martin. [12]
