The so-called The Lost Interview is an hour long video interview with Frank Zappa by Niles Lesh, recorded in 1990. The footage was never used in its entirety, though some fragments were used for the documentaries The Clash of the 20th Century (1992) and Frank Zappa - Mini Biography (2013). In the 2000s the entire rough cut of this hour-long surfaced on the Internet and YouTube.

Niles Lesh asks Zappa questions on the basis of some topics relevant to post-World War II 20th century, Zappa's own musical influences and politics. Among the topics he discusses are Joseph McCarthy, Time For Beany, Elvis Presley, U.S. Presidents Harry S. Truman, Dwight Eisenhower, John F. Kennedy, Lyndon B. Johnson, Richard Nixon, Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan, George Bush, Jimi Hendrix, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, censorship, UFO's, sex and democracy.

When asked to give a final message to people in the year 3000, Zappa concluded that by then there "won't be any people left, just slugs and bacteria", whereupon he gives his message in so-called bacteria language.
