Michael Urso had known Zappa since late 1960s. He joined Rare Earth in 1972 playing bass. He was hired by Zappa to temporarily replace Tom Fowler who had broken his arm in November of 1974. Urso was soon replaced by James Youman until Fowler healed enough to rejoin the band.
