Spiro Agnew (November 9, 1918- September 17, 1996) was an American Vice President (1969-1973), serving under President Richard Nixon. Near the end of 1973 Agnew was forced to resign on charges of extortion, tax fraud, bribery and conspiracy. He is the only Vice President in U.S. history to resign because of criminal charges.
