Neil Slaven

Neil Slaven (August 6, 1944 - December 23, 2023) was a British writer and record producer. He was considered to be a leading authority in the field of blues music.

In 1965, Slaven and Mike Vernon founded the label Blue Horizon Records. Their first single was a song by Hubert Sumlin, on which Slaven played second guitar. Slaven and Vernon also published the music magazine R&B Monthly. In 1969, Slaven and Mike Leadbitter published Blues Records, a discography of thousands of US blues recordings.

He also compiled and wrote sleeve notes for CDs (among others by John Mayall and Eric Clapton) and worked as an advisor to a number of record labels. Slaven was also a major contributor to the "Encyclopaedia Of Popular Music" and wrote articles for magazines like "Blue Unlimited", "Vox", "Mojo" and "Billboard".

Slaven also wrote Electric Don Quixote (1996), a biography about Frank Zappa.
