Anton Corbijn
Anton Corbijn (May 20, 1955) is a Dutch photographer and film director. He is most famous for his striking black-and-white photos of famous rock stars, including Björk, Nick Cave, Elvis Costello, Joy Division, The Killers, Metallica, R.E.M., The Rolling Stones, Simple Minds, Siouxsie and The Banshees, Bruce Springsteen, U2,... His photos have appeared in magazines, books and have been exhibited in galleries and received awards. He also photographed the covers of R.E.M.'s Automatic For The People (1991), U2's The Joshua Tree (1987) and Achtung Baby (1991) and Nick Cave's The Boatman's Call (1997).
Corbijn also directed music videos, among them for Coldplay (Viva La Vida), Depeche Mode (Enjoy the Silence), Front 242 (Headhunter), Joy Division (Atmosphere), Mercury Rev (Goddess On A Hiway), Nirvana (Heartshaped Box), Red Hot Chili Peppers (My Friends) and U2 (Pride, One, Please). He also directed films, including Control (2007) about the life of Joy Division singer Ian Curtis, and the espionage thriller A Most Wanted Man (2014).
As a huge fan of Captain Beefheart, Corbijn also shot the cover of his final album, Ice Cream For Crow (1982) and directed a 13-minute documentary, Some Low Yo-Yo Stuff (1993), about Beefheart, which features a guest appearance by David Lynch.
Frank Zappa
In July 1991, Corbijn took photos of Frank Zappa and his dog Shillelagh for an article in Mojo Magazine. These photos were also used in Bob Guccione, Jr.'s interview Signs Of The Times for Spin Magazine.
Corbijn published a photo book where he poses dressed up as various rock stars, as a form of self-mockery. One of them is Frank Zappa. [1] [2]
