The San Bernardino County Jail in San Ber'dino, California was where Zappa spent 10 days in Tank C in the Spring of 1965, after he was arrested for "recording a pornographic tape"..[1] One of the cellmates there was Slicks.
The experience was humiliating and traumatic to Zappa, who referenced it in his song San Ber'dino on One Size Fits All (1975). Later he wrote about his arrest and jailtime in The Real Frank Zappa Book, concluding: "This gave me a real good whiff of California law, California lawyers, and an inside look at the California penal industry in action. I haven't seen anything since then to change my opinion of how poorly the system works.".
