Fiddler On The Roof is a 1964 Broadway musical, with lyrics by Sheldon Harnick and music by Jerry Bock, based on Sholehm Aleichem's short story Tevye the Dairyman. In 1971, it was adapted into a Hollywood film, directed by Norman Jewison, starring Chaim Topol.

Interviewed by Den Simms and Rob Samler for Society Pages (The Magazine), issue #7, September 1991, Frank Zappa said that when he and his crew were filming 200 Motels (The Film) in 1971, right next to their studio people were filming "Fiddler On The Roof". Zappa added: "Theodore Bikel, who played Rance Muhammitz in '200 Motels', had played in 'Fiddler On The Roof' on Broadway a number of times, and when he would come to work every day, it seemed that he wished that he was in the other soundstage instead of ours."
