The San Francisco Symphony was formed in 1911. Under the pseudonym of "The World-Wide Symphony Orchestra," they recorded the version of Igor Stravinsky's The Rite Of Spring that a young Frank Zappa purchased, which introduced him to Stravinsky's music. As of 2020, Esa-Pekka Salonen is their musical director.
