Esa-Pekka Salonen (Helsinki, June 30, 1958) is a Finnish composer and conductor.
Frank Zappa
In the summer of 1990, Frank Zappa planned to visit a festival called "Meeting of the Worlds" held in Joensuu, Finland. Esa-Pekka Salonen conducted Zappa's piece The Perfect Stranger there. They had met in L.A., where Salonen was the conductor of the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra. However Zappa cancelled his appearance for personal reasons. [1]
According to an interview with Salonen he claimed that, besides Zappa, he doesn't listen to popular music at all. [2]
Salonen conducted the concert album 200 Motels - The Suites (2015).
