"The History And Collected Improvisations Of The Mothers Of Invention" was to be released as 12 LP box in 1970. Since the material on this 12 LP set covered the years 1963 to 1969, lack of record company cooperation stopped this album in its tracks. After removing material from this set for "Weasels Ripped My Flesh" and "Burnt Weeny Sandwich", the set was reduced to 10 LPs, then reduced to 9 LPs, then divided into three 3 LP sets to be called "No Commercial Potential". FZ even ran ads in Playboy magazine to sell this set, but the ads did not generate enough interest.

Initial LP titles for this set:

  1. Before The Beginning
  2. The Cucamonga Era
  3. Show And Tell
  4. What Does It All Mean
  5. Rustic Protrusion
  6. Several Boogie
  7. The Merely Entertaining Mothers Of Invention Record
  8. The Heavy Business Record
  9. Soup & Old Clothes
  10. The Weasel Music
  11. The Orange County Lumber Truck
  12. Hotel Dixie

"Four Generations Of Mothers" was scheduled in 1974, containing live recordings taken from the 12 LP box set.
