The Calvanes
The Calvanes were an American doo-wop group, who, in their initial five-member line-up, released two singles: "Don't Take Your Love From Me / Crazy Over Me" (1955) and "One More Kiss/ Florabelle" (1956). None charted.
Zappa owned the single One More Kiss /Florabelle. The group's tenor singer, Lorenzo Robert Adams A.K.A. Bobby Adams, was briefly Zappa's bodyguard in the early 1970s.
After reforming in 1990, The Calvanes covered Memories Of El Monte (written by Zappa) on their album In Harmony (2001).
Quotes
In Don Menn, Eric Buxton and Rob Samler's They're Doing the Interview of the Century, Part 3, Zappa talks about Bob Adams:
Frank Zappa:: "Another guy, who was really a great bodyguard, and I wish I could remember his name, he was only with me for a short time, but he used to sing in a rhythm 'n blues group called "The Calvanes", on Dootone, and he recorded a song called "Florabelle", which I have in my collection. His name is Bob. I can't remember his last name. Bob was a good guy. We used to sit in the dressing room, and sing doo-wop tunes together, but he wasn't available anymore, and couldn't do it anymore."
