Sidney W. Brossman
Sidney W. Brossman, name-checked as "Dr. Brossman" on the cover of "Freak Out!" (1966) under the heading "These People Have Contributed Materially In Many Ways To Make Our Music What It Is. Please Do Not Hold It Against Them", was the first Chancellor of the CA Community Colleges (1968-77). He guided California's community colleges as they separated from the Department of Education and the K-12 system to form an independent system of higher education. Dr. Brossman remained active in higher education after his term as chancellor, serving as director of Instructional and Student Services at the San Diego Community College District and as a professor of education at San Diego State University. Later he worked as an education consultant. He died in March 1999, after a battle with cancer; he was 76.
