Salvo Cuccia
Salvo Cuccia (July 14, 1960) is an Italian screenwriter, film director and documentary maker.
He is a huge Zappa fan since his teenage years, liking "the irony of his lyrics (...) as a counterpoint to more serious compositions. The way he managed to fit in desecrating lyrics that were extremely amusing and that he used to mock the American media, to fight its civil battle against censorship.". In the summer of 1982, Zappa played a concert in his birth town Palermo, Sicily, which he never was able to attend since riots at the concert caused a traffic jam that made him arrive too late, while the concert itself had been cancelled halfway. Cuccia's father, who drove him to the concert, despite already being very ill, died some time later. Cuccia had had a long conversation with him during their trip, which helped him recuperate their father-and-son relationship. [1]
In 2013, Cuccia directed Summer '82: When Zappa Came to Sicily, a documentary about the summer of 1982, when Frank Zappa performed in Palermo, Cuccia's personal memories and the Zappa family visiting present-day Sicily to meet several relatives of Zappa's family they had never met before.
