Robert Sheckley (July 16, 1928 – December 9, 2005) was an American science fiction writer. His novels were famously unpredictable, absurdist and broadly comical. His best known books are "Immortality, Inc." (1958) and "Journey Beyond Tomorrow" (1963).

Frank Zappa included Robert Sheckley in the list of influences in the sleeve of his debut album "Freak Out!" (1966) under the heading: "These People Have Contributed Materially In Many Ways To Make Our Music What It Is. Please Do Not Hold It Against Them".
