Mr. Justice Mocatta
Alan Abraham Mocatta (1907-1990) was a British judge.
In 1971, he oversaw the trial between the Royal Albert Hall and Frank Zappa, after the 200 Motels concert was cancelled after complaints about obscenity from the Hall's secretary Marion Herrod. The Royal Albert Hall was defended by Mr. Campbell, while Mr. Ogden defended Zappa. The trial is described in The Real Frank Zappa Book.
"Now, the judge: this guy was maybe eighty years old. He looked like a cartoon of a judge -- perfect, except he didn't have an ear trumpet. During the proceedings, one of the lawyers attempted to introduce the 200 Motels record album into evidence. Upon seeing it, Justice Mocatta asked, "What is that?" The reply: "It is a phonograph record, your lordship."
