Mario Maglieri (7 February 1924 - 5 May 2017) [1] [2] was the Italian-American doorman at the Whisky a Go-Go, when Frank Zappa and The Mothers of Invention performed there in the mid-1960s. [3] In 1966, he became manager of the venue. In 1972, he bought the Villa Nova restaurant with Elmer Valentine and Lou Adler. [4]
Mario is name-checked on the cover of "Freak Out!" (1966) under the heading "These People Have Contributed Materially In Many Ways To Make Our Music What It Is. Please Do Not Hold It Against Them".
