Matt Groening's tribute to Frank Zappa in Life in Hell, 1993.

Life in Hell was a satirical comic strip by Matt Groening, serialized between 1977 and 2012. It featured gags about an anthropomorphic rabbit family, of which the father was named Binky, his wife Sheba and their son Bongo. Other characters were the identical-looking friends, Akbar and Jeff. The comic featured both autobiographical stories and satire of society, politics, culture, media, education, business, relationships, etc... [1]

In 1987, Groening received the chance to adapt Life in Hell into an animated TV series, but eventually changed his plans to come up with The Simpsons instead.

In some gags of Life in Hell references are made to Frank Zappa's albums. Groening also credited Cal Schenkel's design for the album cover of Hot Rats with inspiring him for the design of his Life in Hell books. [2]

In 1993, after Zappa's death, Groening drew a special homage gag of Life in Hell.
