John Tasker Howard (30 November 1890 - 20 November 1964) was an American music historian, musicologist, radio presenter, writer, arranger and composer. He wrote the book Our American Music (1931), chronicling the history of music in the United States.
Frank Zappa and John Tasker Howard
Frank Zappa mentioned John Tasker Howard in the sleeve of Freak Out! (1966), under the heading: "These People Have Contributed Materially In Many Ways To Make Our Music What It Is. Please Do Not Hold It Against Them".
Zappa wrote in the foreword to Absolutely Free: The Complete Libretto": "Music has always shown how people think and feel, according to John Tasker Howard. He is probably right".
