John French
John French, A.K.A. "Drumbo" (1948) is an American rock musician. He was a member of Captain Beefheart's Magic Band between 1964 and 1972 (performing on the Zappa-produced album Trout Mask Replica (1969)), and again in 1980.
When Beefheart and Zappa recorded Alley Cat (1969), Elliot Ingber played guitar and French provided drums. This recording was later made public on The Lost Episodes (1996). [1]
In the 1980s, French collaborated with Henry Kaiser and Fred Frith. Kaiser also played on French's solo album O Solo Drumbo (1998). [2] In the documentary The Artist Formerly Known As Captain Beefheart (1997), French was also interviewed.
John French was mentioned and thanked in the liner notes of The MOFO Project/Object (Fazedooh) (2006) album. [3]
