El Monte Legion Stadium

The El Monte Legion Stadium was originally built in 1932, for the Olympic Games in Los Angeles, as a venue for wrestling matches. Later it became a popular venue for music shows and dances. In 1974, the stadium was demolished.

Frank Zappa

Pamela Zarubica described FZ's apartment: "It was thick with dust, old posters about El Monte Legion Stadium Dances, music sheets, and records".

The Penguins Memories Of El Monte (1963) is about the stadium.

In Dog Breath, Zappa also mentions the location: Going to El Monte... Legion Stadium".

Although Zappa often mentioned El Monte, he and his group never performed there, althought there exists a Safe Muffinz bootleg of The Mothers allegedly performing at El Monte Legion Stadium in 1971.
