Oliver Nelson.

Oliver Nelson (4 June 1932 - 28 October 1975) was an American jazz composer, saxophonist, clarinetist, arranger and bandleader. He is most famous for albums like The Blues and the Abstract Truth (1960), which featured Eric Dolphy.

Later in his career he wrote background music for TV series like Ironside, Night Gallery, Colombo and The Six Million Dollar Man.

Zappa liked The Blues and the Abstract Truth. [1] In 1989 he selected Stolen Moments from The Blues and the Abstract Truth as one of the ten records he would take with him to a deserted island, during the radio show Castaway's Choice, hosted by John McNally.
