One of Frank Zappa's Archetypal American Icon Modules.

From the section "How Did They Manage To Do That?" in the chapter "All About Music" in The Real Frank Zappa Book:

"For example, say I'm talking to Chad Wackerman. I'll tell him, 'The Quaalude Thunder goes here.' That's the shorthand description of a drum fill you hear on certain heavy metal albums - where the guy plays as many notes as he can on all of his thousand tom-toms before he ends with The Big Crash."

Quaaludes are a sedative and hypnotic medication that caught on as a party and club drug starting in the late 1970s during the Disco era.
