Vernon Greene was an American doowop singer and frontman of the group The Medallions, with whom he recorded "The Letter" and "Dootone". They also did "Buick '59", one of the sexiest, lustiest, (intentionally) funniest car songs ever cut by a doo wop outfit.
Green was name-checked on the cover of "Freak Out!" (1966) under the heading "These People Have Contributed Materially In Many Ways To Make Our Music What It Is. Please Do Not Hold It Against Them".
Zappa played their song "The Letter" on KSAN, San Francisco. On KPPC, Pasadena he played three of their songs: "1959 Volvo", "Edna" and "Speedin'".
