John Bergamo (May 28, 1940 - October 19, 2013) was an American jazz composer, percussionist and musical educator.
Bergamo attended the Lenox School of Jazz, Lenox Mass. in 1959 with fellow students such as Ornette Coleman and Don Cherry. During the mid-1960s he was with the Creative Associates at the State University at Buffalo, formed by Lukas Foss.
Moving to California, he became coordinator of the percussion program at California Institute of the Arts in 1970. Bergamo taught Ed Mann who later joined him in his group The Repercussion Unit (founded in 1976).
Bergamo has performed on the soundtracks of Hollywood films like Altered States (1980). He has also worked with many artists from Herb Alpert to Van Dyke Parks and Ringo Starr.
