Dr. Ruth (4 June 1928 - 12 July 2024) was a German born-American sex therapist, radio and TV presenter and author. Her TV programs in the 1980s were aimed at America's youth to inform them about sexuality. Due to her German accent, she was also an easy target for satire.
She was referred to by Zappa in his letter to The President regarding the PMRC. (She was not a supporter of the PMRC)
"In a nation where deranged pressure groups fight for the removal of sexual education from public schools, and parents know so little about sex that they have to call "Dr. Ruth" on TV for answers to rudimentary anatomical questions, it would seem infinitely more responsible for these esteemed wives and mothers to demand a full-scale Congressional demystification of the subject."
