Sting was a bass guitarist and vocalist with The Police and then as a solo artist. In 1988 Zappa invited him to perform with the band at in Chicago . He performed his song Murder By Numbers from the final album by The Police Synchronicity. This performance can be heard on Broadway The Hard Way. In a thank-you note after the performance Sting wrote, "Please mail me the sheet music for The Idiot Bastard Son, you won't be sorry. Love, Mr. Sting." Recordings exist of Sting performing this on his '88 tour.
