Robert Arthur Kavelman (April 20, 1925 - January 19, 2022) was a US music teacher at Mission Bay High, who was also active as music historian, trombonist and conductor. His favorite composer was Johann Sebastian Bach, but he also loved jazz.
Zappa and Robert Kavelman
He was a teacher when Zappa was a pupil at Mission Bay High. One day, Zappa asked him why he liked Angel In My Life so much and he gave him a technical musical answer: "Parallel fourths." He also told Zappa about twelve-tone music. In The Real Frank Zappa Book, Zappa credits Kavelman with leading him to Anton Webern.
