Rutger Hauer (23 January 1944 - 19 July 2019) was a Dutch film actor, best known for his roles in Paul Verhoeven's blockbuster films Turks Fruit (Turkish Delight, 1973), Soldaat van Oranje (Soldier of Orange, 1977) and roles in Hollywood movies, such as Batty the replicant leader in Ridley Scott's Blade Runner (1981).
Frank Zappa
Hauer was interviewed in Henning Lohner's The Revenge Of The Dead Indians (1992). He is one of the people receiving thanks for their "very special but no less significant contributions" in Frank Zappa's The Yellow Shark liner notes. [1] He is also thanked in the liner notes of The MOFO Project/Object. [2]
On 23-24 June 2000, Hauer was present at the world premier of 200 Motels - The Suites, performed by the Nederlands Philharmonisch Orkest during the Holland Festival in Carré Amsterdam. [3]
In a chatroom conversation held on 16 April 2000, Hauer named Zappa as one of his "greatest inspirations".[4] In another chat conversation on 7 February 2001 Hauer and the moderator discussed the concept the mind at one point, which led to him quoting from What's The Ugliest Part Of Your Body?.[5]
On Arjen Lucassen's concept album Lost in the New Real (2012) (which contains a cover of Zappa's I'm The Slime), Hauer provides the narration.
