[[Shirley Eiler]] is a so far Unidentified Person, name-checked on the cover of "[[Freak Out!]]" (1966) under the heading "These People Have Contributed Materially In Many Ways To Make Our Music What It Is. Shirley Eiler was a teacher at Antelope Valley High School, where Zappa was one of her pupils. When Zappa won an art competition in 1958, she was present at the ceremony. [1]

In 1966, Zappa mentioned Shirley Eiler in the sleeve of his album Freak Out! (1966), under the heading: "These People Have Contributed Materially In Many Ways To Make Our Music What It Is. Please Do Not Hold It Against Them".[2]

During the 1969 Pop Chronicles rockumentary, Zappa talked about improvising an opera onstage with the Mothers and a singer named Shirley, but he did not give her last name.[1]
