Vernon Greene (December 1, 1937 - December 24, 2000) was an American doowop singer and frontman of the group The Medallions, with whom he recorded "The Letter" and "Buick '59" (both from 1954), one of the sexiest, lustiest, (intentionally) funniest car songs ever cut by a doo wop outfit. When members of his group left, including Donald Woods, Greene established another band in 1956, titled Vernon Green(e) and The Phantoms.
Frank Zappa mentioned Vernon Greene in the sleeve of Freak Out! (1966), under the heading: "These People Have Contributed Materially In Many Ways To Make Our Music What It Is. Please Do Not Hold It Against Them".
