The Cadets
The Cadets were an American doo-wop band, active between 1947 and 1957. Members Aaron Collins, Willie Davis, Wil “Dub” Jones, Glendon Kingsby, Lloyd McCraw and Austin “Ted” Taylor were originally active as a gospel group. When they switched to doo-wop, Kingsby left. In 1956, Taylor also left to pursue a solo career and was replaced by Prentice Moreland for the recording of what turned out to be The Cadets' biggest hit: Stranded In The Jungle, a cover of The Jay Hawks' single of the same name. Some of The Cadets' songs were recorded under the name The Jacks.
After The Cadets split, Jones joined The Coasters.
Frank Zappa
In October 1976, Zappa covered Stranded In The Jungle live four times, namely in Tampa, Florida (14 October), at the University of Florida (16 October) and twice in New York at the US Felt Forum: on 30 and 31 October.
The line "Great goo-ga-moo-ga! Let me out of here!" from Stranded in the Jungle (spoken by Prentice Moreland) is quite similar to Zappa’s own "Great Googly Moogly" in Don't Eat The Yellow Snow.
