Sugizo
Sugizo (July 8, 1969) is a Japanese rock composer, guitarist, violinist, songwriter and record producer. Since 1989, he is the front man of the band Luna Sea, but also performed with the bands Shag, The Flare, S.T.K., Juno Reactor, S.K.I.N., X Japan and The Last Rockstars. He is known as a anti-war, anti-nuclear weapons activist and an environmentalist.
Frank Zappa
When he was 15 years old, he became a fan of rock artists like YMO, Culture Club, King Crimson, Frank Zappa, Led Zeppelin and Kiss.
Interviewed by JRockNews, Sugizo explained how he became a Zappa fan: "For Zappa, I was influenced by Missing Persons [an American rock band], and Steve Vai [an American guitarist, composer, songwriter, and producer], when I went to an import record store at the time to buy their vinyl, I came across Zappa’s vinyl." [1]
In 1999, he compiled a CD with his favorite Zappa tracks. It was released as Sugizo Meets Frank Zappa.
