Pierrejean Gaucher
Pierrejean Gaucher (December 17, 1958) is a French jazz guitarist.
He discovered Zappa in the 1980s and attended the 1982 concert in the Porte de Pantin, Paris. He holds a motto by Zappa dear: "Make serious music that isn't serious and non-serious serious music." [1]
In 1994, Gaucher's New Trio performed a Zappa tribute called Zappe Zappa, where they would improvise over Zappa's compositions.[2] This resulted in the album "Zappe Zappa" (1998). In July 2002 he and Christophe Godin performed a Zappa set at the Zappanale Festival in in Bad Doberan, Germany. Parts of this concert were released on two albums in the Zappanale series. Gaucher met Ahmet Zappa and various former bandmembers of Zappa. He claimed that he had the most respect for Napoleon Murphy Brock. [3]
On 12 February 2023, Gaucher contributed to a podcast about the jazz influences in Zappa's music. [4]
Gaucher later also made and recorded a similar tribute to Erik Satie, Zappe Satie, where, apart from Satie's music, Zappa's music is also regularly quoted. [5] Gaucher considers Satie a spiritual forefather to Zappa. [6]
