Nathaniel Lester Lanin (1907-2004) was an American pop and Jazz music bandleader from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania active from 1927 to the 1990s.
In November 1974, Lanin played at a party held by Frank Zappa in New York.[1]
In the section "How Did They Manage To Do That?" in the chapter "All About Music" in The Real Frank Zappa Book, FZ cited "the Lester Lanin texture" as an example of an American Archetypal Icon Module, certain techniques which evoke familiar sounds and which add new twists to lyrics.
