Gary Numan (b. 8 March, 1958) is a British electronic pop musician. He originally played under the name Tubeway Army, before settling on his real name instead. Numan scored hits with songs like Cars and Are 'Friends' Electric? (1979).
Frank Zappa
As a guest DJ on WPIX, New York (19 November 1979), Frank Zappa played Cars by Gary Numan. He used the melody of this song during various live performances in the early 1980s, singing an early version of what would later become In France. By the time he recorded In France on his album Them Or Us (1984), Zappa used an original composition to avoid copyright issues. [1]
