Galileo Galilei (February 15, 1564 - January 8, 1642) was an Italian astronomer and physicist, who proved that Earth did indeed revolve around the sun and a heavy object and lighter object will both fall at the same speed. The Vatican forced him to withdraw his theories. In 1992, almost 450 years later, Pope John Paul II officially confirmed that Galilei was right.
