David McMacken (October 6, 1944 - November 4, 2019)[1] was an American painter, illustrator and album cover illustrator. He studied at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California (1967). He designed covers for The Beach Boys, Stan Kenton, Kansas (Leftoverture, 1976), Weather Report, Cat Stevens, Flo & Eddie (Moving Targets, 1976) and AC/DC (Ballbreaker, 1995). McMacken also made covers for video game box covers. He also worked for Playgirl and designed the film poster for Steven Spielberg's 1941.

For Frank Zappa, McMacken designed the covers of 200 Motels (1971) (also used as the film poster) and Over-Nite Sensation (1973). Later, he also designed a cover for Rare Meat - Early Works Of Frank Zappa (1983).

He died in 2019 from cancer.
