Claude Achille Debussy
Claude Debussy (August 22, 1862 - March 25, 1918) was a late 19th-century, early 20th-century French composer and pianist, widely regarded as one of the most influential composers of his lifetime. His piece "Prélude à l' Après-midi d'un Faune" (1894) has been described by Pierre Boulez as "the first piece of modern music". Debussy also wrote other important compositions, such as Suite Bergamasque (1890), Nocturnes (1897-1899), La Mer (1903-1905), Images (1905-1912) and the opera Pelléas et Mélisande (1902). His most iconic piece of music is Clair de Lune (1890).
Frank Zappa and Claude Debussy
Zappa's track Prelude To The Afternoon Of A Sexually Aroused Gas Mask is a direct inspiration.
The Girl In The Magnesium Dress is a nod to Debussy's The Girl With The Flaxen Hair, which is also quoted during Status Back Baby (during the lyrics "I'm losing status at the high school / I used to think that it was my school.")
