Carol Kaye was born in Everett, Washington to musician parents. She has played professionally since 1949. Initially she played with jazz groups on the nightclub circuit around Los Angeles, including a spell with Bob Neal's band backing Lenny Bruce. She switched to studio sessions in the late 1950's as they provided regular hours and income while she had a young family. She has worked with countless names and did much film and TV work. She provided 12-string guitar for Freak Out! and Absolutely Free.
