Notes
“We were lucky enough to land a residency at a new club on Santa Monica Boulevard called the Action. It opened with a great flourish—loads of publicity and capacity audiences … and that was when Hollywood, especially Sunset Strip, was just beginning to change from its old cocktail lounge image to a more rock’n’roll-oriented scene. We got a good thing going at the Action, because we knew so many of the local musicians, and they were always coming along to jam with us. We were resident there for a while, making good money—and on our night off, every Monday, they’d put on this other group called The Mothers—with Frank Zappa and Henry Vestine.” - Joel Hill Scott (later of Canned Heat and The Flying Burrito Brothers ) From Riot on Sunset Strip by Domenic Priore.
