Gene & Eunice are name-checked on the cover of "[[Freak Out!]]" (1966) under the heading "These People Have Contributed Materially In Many Ways To Make Our Music What It Is. Please Do Not Hold It Against Them". They were an American, West Coast-based, R&B duo of the 1950s. Recorded the original version of "This Is My Story" ([[Aladdin]]). They were the first to hit with "Kokomo", recorded for the Combo label in late 1954.
