Florence Marly
Florence Marly (June 2, 1919 - November 9, 1978) was the stage name of Czech film actress Hana Smékalová. After World War II, she went to Hollywood, where she acted in many nowadays forgotten B-movies.
Frank Zappa
In 1966, Marly played a vampire queen in the science fiction horror film, Queen of Blood, directed by Curtis Harrington and co-starring Basil Rathbone, Dennis Hopper, John Saxon and Judi Meredith. To promote the film, Marly recorded a single, Space Boy (1966), written, arranged and produced by Frank Zappa, who also performs drums on the track. Del Kacher provides bass and guitar. In the end, the single wasn't used in the movie. [1]
In 1973, a sequel was made: Space Boy, directed by Renate Druks, again starring Florence Marly, but this movie was only six minutes long. The Space Boy song was used in this film, but in a re-recorded version.[2]
Leonard Moran's soundtrack for Queen of Blood would be imitated by Zappa for his own song, Planet Of My Dreams. [3]
