The Tropicana Motel was a motel at 8585 Santa Monica Boulevard in West Hollywood, operative between 1947 and 1987.
Frank Zappa
Frank Zappa wrote part of the music for Lumpy Gravy at the Tropicana Motel, as reported in They're Doing the Interview of the Century, Part 2 by Den Simms, Eric Buxton and Rob Samler, Society Pages, June 1990.
Frank Zappa advertised it in the sleeve of Freak Out!, under the header "Freak Out! Hot Spots": "THE TROPICANA MOTEL is groupies' paradise... that's where most of the touring groups who play the Whisky a Go-Go stay when they hit town, as well as many members of active local groups like The Doors and The Byrds."
