Movies For A Desert Isle: Forty-Two Well-Known Film Lovers in Search of Their Favorite Movie is a 1987 book by Ellen Oumano, published by St. Martin's Press, New York. It features interviews with film directors and other media celebrities about what movie(s) they would want to take to a deserted island with them. Among the interviewed people are Robert Altman, Joel and Ethan Coen, Roger Corman, Wes Craven, Marianne Faithfull, Jim Jarmusch, Akira Kurosawa, Paul Morrisey, Harold Ramis, Ivan Reitman, Andrew Sarris, Volker Schlöndorff, Martin Sheen, Penelope Spheeris, István Szabó, John Waters, Wim Wenders, and many more.[1]
One of the people interviewed is Frank Zappa, who discusses his own movies, 200 Motels, Baby Snakes and the film he was working on at the time: Uncle Meat. He also talks about the movies he wrote music for, The World's Greatest Sinner and Run Home Slow.[2] As for other people's films, Zappa said he prefers thinking up his own images and stories while listening to a piece of music, like, for instance The Rite Of Spring, than watching a movie more than once. He names David Lynch's Eraserhead and the B-horror moviesThe Killer Shrews and The Braniac as three of his favorite pictures. [3]
