Bülent Arel (1918-1991), misspelled "Bulent", is name-checked in the liner notes of "Freak Out!" (1966) under the heading "These People Have Contributed Materially In Many Ways To Make Our Music What It Is. Please Do Not Hold It Against Them", was born in Istanbul, Turkey and started his career as a sound technician at Radio Ankara, which probably gave him a good foundation to start working as a pioneer / composer of electronic music... Together with Ilhan Usmanba and Ilhan Mimaroglu, Arel symbolizes the avant-garde of the older generation of contemporary Turkish music.
